Election Workers work at the polls on
Election Days to ensure elections are
run in an honest and well

manner. Wharton needs 75 to 100
workers to work in its 12 precincts
for each General Election.

County

Do not hold elected office or are not
the employee or deputy of an elected
official

Enjoy meeting other people and
serving the public

WHAT ARE THE HOURS WORKED
?
General elections are held each year on
the first Tuesday after the first Monday in
November.
Primary elections, if called for, are held
on
the second Tuesda
y in June. Special
elections are scheduled as necessary.
Election Workers arrive at the polling
place
at 6:00 a.m. on Election Days, and must
remain until 8:00 pm or later.
Polling places are always open from 7:00
a.m. to 7:00 p.m
.

Just about everyone! We have senior
citizens and high school students;
people
who work full
-
time, are self
employed, or are retired; and those from
long
-
time Wharton families
—
a highly
diverse workforce, just like Wharton, TX!
We are also looking for people fluent in
Spanish.

E
LECTION
WORKERS
DO
?
Election Workers work at
their precincts.
Their duties include:
•
Arriving at the polling place at 6:00
a.m. on Election Day
•
Setting up voting machines and signs
to prepare the polling place for voting
•
Processing voters by checking them in
using a electronic poll book.
•
Oper
ating and instructing voters on the
use of the voting machines
•
Tallying results, securing the voting
machines, and closing the polling place

?
All Election Workers are required to
attend a two
-
hour training class. Classes
are held pr
ior to each election.

?
Election Workers are
assigned to work at their own polling
places. Training schedules are
mailed
approximately
four to six weeks prior to
the
election date.
